Khairuddin Bin Hori

Khairuddin Bin Hori was from the graduating class of the Diploma in Fine Art in 1995. A multi-disciplinary artist with a rare combination of skills, the versatile curator recently held the prestigious post of Deputy Programming Director at Palais de Tokyo in Paris, the largest contemporary arts centre in Europe.

He was the curator of “Secret Archipelago”, a show featuring 35 Southeast Asian artists which opened at the Palais de Tokyo in March 2015. He also curated “Open Sea” a showcase of works from Singapore’s national collection as well as collection of artists that was launched at the Musée d’art contemporain de Lyon in April last year. Both exhibits came under the umbrella of “Singapour en France” a three-month programme organised by the Singapore and French governments to promote Singaporean art and design in France. His projects at the Palais include the solo exhibitions of the French Quistrebert brothers and young Chinese artist, Tianzhuo Chen among others.

Khairuddin was an associate artist at The Substation and a senior curator with the Singapore Art Museum and the National Heritage Board. Other hats he wore include theatre actor, director, associate director of Teater Ekamatra (a local Malay theatre company), poet and arts manager at the Singapore Management University.

In May 2014, Khairuddin founded DXXXXD, a creative entity formed by artists interested in the relation between contemporary visual art and the vernacular. They engage the general public who are interested and invested in various dimensions of social culture through collaboration, creation, design, curation and the presentation of art and art-related happenings. They envision a society where art is the social conscience.

Since 2010, Khairuddin served in committees which include:  the Arts Creation Fund - Visual Arts of the National Arts Council in 2010, as well as a member of the Arts and Culture Strategic Review Committee for the Ministry of Information, Communication and the Arts from 2011 to 2012.
